Week One
Dear Karen,
School reopened on Monday 9th after a short break. The students are studying; Mathematics, languages (English and Bemba), integrated science, social studies, creative and technology studies and community studies.
All the teachers are doing well and they are healthy too and ready for the mobile clinics this July.
Attendance:
Grade 1
Total is 30, 13 boys and 17 girls. Average attendance was 26.
Grade 2
Total is 31, 13 boys and 18 girls. Average attendance was 23. 2 girls have not yet reported.
Grade 3
Total is 30, 16 boys and 14 girls. Average attendance was 20. 2 have not yet reported. Sungi has malaria and is on treatment.
Grade 4
Total is 29, 15 boys and 14 girls. Average attendance was 18. 3 have not yet reported.
Grade 5
Total is 32, 13 boys and 19 girls. Average attendance was 24. Luckson and Purity have malaria and are on treatment.
Grade 6
Total is 31, 19 boys and 12 girls. Average attendance was 18. 4 students have not yet reported.
Grade 7
Total is 26, 15 boys and 11 girls respectively. Average attendance was 19.
The adult literacy class is doing well. The women have continued coming and more are willing to be enrolled.
TOILET
There is need for the school to build another ablution block. The standard student toilet ratio is 15:1 but as at now our school is on 35:1. This is one of the reasons why the ablution is being in a mess every now and then.
Most schools in the southern province of Zambia have been closed due to poor sanitation.
