WEEKLY REPORT FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 10TH 2013
SCHOOL
School opened on the 6th may 2013 with a record of 118 out of 201 students who have so far reported for lessons. With only two reported sick M/ Denny and F/Ruth all grade 6 students. Ruth collapsed in class due to starvation. She resides in George compound with her old grandmother, the problem with this girl is food. There are ten in their family under the same roof and her brother M/Charles also grade 6 student here at OMNI is the one taking care of the family by going in brush to catch birds to feed the family of ten and some time if mealie meal is there at home the relish is water mixed with salt. Ruth and the brother can live for two to three days without eating any food and this has affected their performance in class.
This low turnout in the attendance of our Children is due to that a lot are helping their parents harvesting farm produces and most are following the school calendar which start on 13th May, 2013. We have set Wednesday 15th 2013 to meet the members of the community or rather guardians sending Children to OMNI School to discuss the way forward on the absenteeism policy.
We have continued the student assessment program and this week we managed to cover 20 children homes took some pictures of them at home and from the water sources.
WELFARE OF THE STAFF MEMBERS
Welfare of all staff members is good with only Miss Chilesha a Grade 5 students Teacher and the Wife to Teddy are reported sick. We have a new member of staff Mr. George Musompa who has joined security.
We had a very successful Meeting on Tuesday With all the members of staff very happy about your coming in the country for the Medical clinic.
MOBILE CLINIC
We started visiting the sites in preparation of the mobile clinics, so far we have visited Baluba, Mansansa, Kasongo, Chisapa and two new places so far that is Kafulafuta and Nyenyeshi. The counselor and other community leaders at Nyenyeshi were all very happy to hear about the news of the Mobile clinic and were very well coming. We are thinking that we would visit Nyenyeshi on Wednesday as that was one of the open days on the calendar.
FARMING AND CHICKEN PROJECTS
This all week we have been feeding our Children with vegetables from our garden saving KR 400/ 80.00USD per two weeks and KR 800/160.00 USD per month from our food budget.
Our 100 Chickens will be ready in two weeks’ time. This project is doing very fine and we are all very happy. We have also given our members of staff an opportunity to buy some birds at a staff price of KR 28/5.00USD and not KR 30/6.00USD this aimed at motivating our staff members and this project is self-staining as already mentioned as we sell some birds to realize a profit and be able to continue running the project without drawing money from the OMNI account. This time around we have aimed to increase the number of birds to 150 in our next consignment.
VITAL INSTALLATION
There are all intact except the ablution block next to the MHEW which needs some repairs for pipes inside are leaking and there is a lot of water running making it very difficult for the Children to have a good access inside and it is also an Health concern. We have hired a plumber to quickly come in and fix the leaks.
