Two Students Saved by New Truck & Food Program for Student
Heifer International: Emily visited two projects started by Heifer in nearby villages. We worked together to create a report that we then submitted to Christy for her review. She has responded with several questions that we are currently looking into.
Chickens: The general workers are cleaning out the chicken coup in preparation for the next 100 chickens that OMNI will buy in two weeks.
We then hope to begin rotating our stock to be able to start providing chicken as one of the children’s weekly staples.
Bore Hole: The drilling of the bore hole is now complete. I am now waiting on quotations to install a pump, tower and tanks. I will keep you updated when I receive a quotation.
Fencing: I just received a second quote for fencing from a local company here in Ndola: Shakti. They came recommended by two different organizations that have fenced their whole property. I am pursuing one more company out of Kitwe but have been unable to get an answer as to their ability to help us yet. Will keep you updated.
Support Provided:
We have now delivered two portions of food to Ruth and her family, who were suffering from starvation. They have been very appreciative and have been much more present at school. We hope that this food support will allow them to focus in school and maintain a healthier living situation.
I transported Esther, a fourth grade student, to the clinic today because of malaria. The clinic gave her Coartem and Panadol. I drove her home and left her in the hands of her grandmother and neighbors. I hope by Monday she will be able to return to school.
I met Johnathan Lutwika at Chemopharm on Wednesday. He was sick with Malaria so I helped him obtain Coartem so he would be able to recover and continue working and going to school.
Children
We have enjoyed watching and participating with the children in their preparations for the OMNI Olympics! They are also helping out a great deal in the preparation of the site for the arrival of the team in July. We had a meeting yesterday with the community to discuss the absentee policy and only had 38 parents. This was a disappointing turnout but we have tasked our PTA members with the responsibility to disseminate the information to the absent parents.
I want to introduce you to Abeo Mubwanga, he is in grade one at our school. His favorite color is red and he loves to play soccer.
He enjoys studying English. When he grows up he wants to be a teacher. He has four brothers and sisters. He lives in George and enjoys playing with his friends after school.
