February school report
The school programs are going on very well despite having challenges. Our school falls under zone eight. All zones, countrywide were requested to come up with strategic plans for the years 2013-2016. This planning meeting took place on the 11th to 12th Feb. 2013 at Mwabombeni, the zonal centre. Each individual school is yet to come up with its own strategic plan to be submitted to the District Education Board Secretary.
On the 14th of Feb. we had a zonal Teachers meeting at Buyantanshi community school, in Twapia were the main business was reading. We were trying to find ways in which we can help our students improve their reading culture as a zone. A lot of techniques pertaining to the teaching of reading in both languages were highlighted. The meeting was worthy attending.
Other issues discussed at the same meeting were the use local materials, the home-work policy, dress code, the logging in and out and the monitoring issue.
On monitoring, there are two types, namely: internal and external monitoring. As school heads, we were tasked to be monitoring our teachers regularly. As for me, I find difficult to monitor the teachers effectively because I also have a class to attend to. There is need for these teachers to be monitored whilst they are teaching in their respective classes. I don’t have a very big problem with their lesson planning, but I suspect that the problem is when they are delivering their lessons. I need to supervise them and then advise accordingly.
Attendance\absenteeism
The general attendance has been good. A few students have been missing school due to the outbreak of malaria, cough and flu.
Illnesses/injuries Generally speaking, all are well except a few who still have malaria. Most local clinics run out of coartem, malarial meds.
Deliveries The school received the following items; cotton wool for knitting project.
All students and staff received mosquito nets.
Red, blue and black pens for the teaching staff. Manila papers for making the teaching charts. Teachers the entire teacher are ok, Alice’s husband is now feeling well. We have a new teacher for the fifth graders, Ms Chileshe Mubanga.
