At Mansansa, the team found their usual building –constructed of old split pine trees — in near collapse. So, the clinic was moved to a roofless brick building instead. The team hung tarps in as many areas as possible to protect against the sun.
There was a high rate of malaria, as the poor farming village is surrounded by still water where the villagers fish, drink, and wash clothes.
Dr. Grant diagnosed a rare infection within the eye of a young woman, who went blind three days ago. Our guard took her into town, found an eye doctor, and the patient received some antibiotics that will save her eyes.
We finished before dark after seeing 435 patients. The community thanked us and we took our 9th annual combined group picture.
